Özet:

The relations of the Uyghurs with Manichaeism date back to the period of the Uyghur Steppe Khaganate, and the third khan of the khanate, Bögü Kagan (Reign: 759-779 / 780), who adopted Manichaeism as the state religion during the Uyghur Khaganate period. The themes and techniques used for the pictures in the religious texts belonging to the Manichaean Uyghurs have been the subject of many studies. With these pictures, it was aimed to spread the Manichaean doctrine and introduce the religion to the communities who did not know this religion. Like painters draw pictures with paints, authors create a picture in the eyes of the audience / readers by using words and metaphors in their texts. Accordingly, literary arts were frequently used in religious texts, with the purpose of to help people to understand the creed more easily and to express the texts in a finer, artistic way. In this study, the metaphors used in Old Turkic Manichaean literary texts and the language of literary portrayal will be examined and the religious terms concretized using metaphors will be listed.
