Abstract:

This study aims to understand the attractive basic motivations in the relations between Turkey and Latin American countries, which have gained intensity and diversity in recent periods. First of all, in the historical and theoretical framework, the Latin American approach of Turkey is discussed. After that, the recent period is deeply examined the specific stages that give the corporate status to the political, economic and cultural relations in Turkey and the Latin American region. After examining these stages, it is clear that liberal preferences are the key factors in the development and step-by-step deepening of the relations between the region and Turkey. Therefore, it is defended that the basis of the institutional relations between the region and Turkey is the liberal direction. Furthermore, when we consider the determining effect of realistic concerns on the recent Middle East approach of Turkey, the activism based on the liberal motivaston in Latin America proves that realistic and liberal policies in a state’s foreign policy can develop at the same time. After the last section reaffirms the vital role of liberal understanding in the institutionalization of mutual relations between Turkey and Latin America, the concrete results of this approach will be presented in the light of economic data in the period of the Justice and Development Party (AK Party).
