Abstract:

There are many studies conducted on the phenomenon of saving. As a matter of fact, it is seen that the majority of studies are conducted to test the relationships between savings, investment and growth. The factors that lead individuals to save are generally interest rates and income levels. However, it is ultimately human beings who realize the saving phenomenon. For this reason, it is important to carry out behavioral economics theoretical-based studies on the phenomenon of saving. However, it is seen that the studies carried out in this context are at a low level. In this study, saving behavior is analyzed from the perspective of behavioral economics within the scope of prospect theory. As a method, the experimental method was applied on the axis of experimental economics, which includes real people, in order to overcome the abstraction that economics has reached. As a result, it has been obtained that among the factors affecting the saving behavior, there is also the loss aversion motive.
