Russian Linguistic Bulletin
Author:
Abstract:

The article addresses the issue of metaphorization as one of the ways of architectural terms’ formation. The attention is paid to colour metaphors as a productive way of coining architectural terms. Colour playing a vital part in the perception of architectural styles and forms requires thorough analysis. The examples of colour metaphors as well as their features are also provided by the author of the article. The most recurrent colours that form Architectural Terminology are white, black, green and grey. The semantic analysis of the most common colour metaphors of General English is also provided to highlight the specific features of colour metaphors in architectural discourse. The comparison strives to illuminate both similarities and differences of two systems, highlighting additional connotations of colour metaphors in Architecture.
