Kadına yönelik şiddet tüm dünyada yaygın olarak gözlenen oldukça eski ve önemli bir küresel sorundur. Özü itibariyle, insan topluluklarının yerleşik hayata geçişiyle birlikte, erkek egemenliğinin hâkim olduğu ataerkil toplumsal düzenle örtüşen toplumsal cinsiyet rolleri, ilişkileri ve örüntüleri çerçevesinde ortaya çıkan bu şiddet, kadının varlığının, bedeninin ve cinselliğinin denetlenmesinde ve sömürülmesinde kullanılan bir araç olagelmiştir. Bu gerçeklikten hareketle, bu çalışmanın temel savı, ataerkil toplumsal düzenlerde, kadına yönelik şiddetin üstü açık ya da örtük bir şekilde olağanlaşmasını, meşrulaşmasını ve yaygınlaşmasını sağlayan iki temel dinamiğin olduğudur. Bunlardan birincisi, kadına yönelik şiddettin sosyo-politik ve sosyo-ekonomik köklerini oluşturan “toplumsal cinsiyet eşitsizliği” olgusudur. İkincisi ise, kadına yönelik şiddettin kültürel-ideolojik köklerini oluşturan “namus” olgusudur. Bu çerçevede, birbirini bütünleyen bir şekilde, kadına yönelik şiddetin sosyal, politik, ekonomik, kültürel ve ideolojik köklerini oluşturduğu düşünülen “toplumsal cinsiyet eşitsizliği” ve “namus” olgularının bu süreçteki rolleri çalışmada genel hatlarıyla irdelenmeye çalışılmıştır.
Violence against women is a very old and important global problem that is widely observed all over the world. In essence, this violence which emerged within the framework of gender roles, relations and patterns that overlap with the patriarchal social order dominated by male dominance, with the transition of human societies to settled life, has been a tool used to control an exploitation the of women’s existence, body and sexuality. Based on this reality, the main argument of this study is that in patriarchal social orders, there are two basic dynamics that enable violence against women to become normal, legitimized and widespread, either implicitly or implicitly. The first of these is the phenomenon of “gender inequality/gender gap”, which constitutes the socio-political and socio-economic roots of violence against women. The second one is the phenomenon of “honor”, which constitutes the cultural-ideological roots of violence against women. In this context, in an integrated way, the roles of “gender inequality/gender gap” and ”honor” phenomena, which are thought to constitute the social, political, economic, cultural and ideological roots of violence against women, in this process have been tried to be examined in general terms in this study.
