Abstract:

Purpose: Lumbal disk hernia (LDH) is a condition that usually occurs at the L5-S1 level, causing pain and somatosensory losses. Therefore, postural controls are reduced in patients. The aim of the study was to investigate the effect of postural control of the disease stage in LDH patients. Methods: Work is a discontinuous research. The study included 55 patients with LDH at the L5-S1 level, including 33 patients in the bulging phase 22, and 33 patients in the protrusion phase. Pacient pain, discomfort and postural controls were measured by the visual pain scale (GAS), Oswestry discomfort index and Biodex balance device. For postural control assessment, stability limits (KS) and sensual interaction balance test (DEDT) were used. The differences between the groups were determined by the Student's T test. Results: There was no significant difference between the groups in terms of age, duration, pain and disability levels (p>0.05). The left-wing KS test score of the bulking group was significantly lower than the patients in the protrusion stage (p<0.05). The soft ground DEDT scores were significantly higher compared to the protrusion group (p<0.05). The result: Patients with protrusion at L5-S1 were found to have a better balance of sensory interaction on the soft ground than patients with bulgins. The boundaries of determination outside the left were similar in both groups. Our study in light of these findings has shown that postural control in LDH patients with L5-S1 levels with different stages of disease may be affected by a change in vestibulary and proprioseptive entrance. Therefore, in the treatment of these patients, it is recommended to apply approaches for the development of postural control according to the stages of the disease.
