Abstract:

The study has been prepared to determine how pilot universities, which are subject to mission differentiation, determine their mission and vision statements in the light of innovative paradigms. The type of research is qualitative, the pattern is in the form of case study. For the study group, 5 strategic plans and 25 academician opinions were used with the purposeful sampling method. Data were collected with a semi-structured interview form and analyzes were performed. In the pilot universities in the study set, 12 themes matched with mission statements and 10 themes associated with vision statements were identified. It was determined that the words "people education", "regional development/regional contribution", "specialization" were used the most in the mission understandings, and the words "leadership in regional development", "innovation and entrepreneurship", "prioritizing education and research" were included in the vision statements. With these statements, it can be stated that they directly contribute to the formation purposes of pilot universities. Academic staff find their mission statements "quite adequate" and "appropriate" and express their sense of vision in a way that shows "the future" and "goals and objectives". It can be stated that mission and vision statements in universities are usually composed of renewed, synergistic, positive statements.
