Abstract:

The Influence of Classical Koran Thought on the Formation and Development ofCommentary Science. Muslims absolutely believe that the Qur’an is the word of God. According to common opinion, the Quran had been revealed to Muhammad in current arrangement of surahsand verses. This point of view caused the text and external meaning of the surahs and verses to begiven preference and its verses are interpreted according to current arrangement. Yet its arrangementof this way neither obstructed the relations of the verses in doing commentaries, nor prevented theverses those are about a common topic from being interpreted totally. In the same way, commentatorsdidn't get stuck with the literal meanings of the verses, but they also took into consideration thehistorical background, goals, textual context (siyâq) etc. of the verses. They also used the hadithsof the Prophet Muhammad, the Arabic language and literature, and humanities and social scienceslike ethics, history, jurisprudence, economy, psychology and cosmology
