Osmanlı Devleti üzerinde nüfuz kurma mücadelesinin kıyasıya yaşandığı 19. yüzyılda seyyah, arkeolog ve diplomat Max von Oppenheim, Almanya adına casusluk yapmış isimler arasındadır. Osmanlı topraklarına yaptığı seyahat ve çalışmaların ardından Almanya’nın Dışişleri Bakanlığı bünyesinde bulunan kurumlarda istihdam edilmesi ve süreç içerisinde İngiltere ve Osmanlı Devleti çalışanları tarafından takibe alınması bu makalenin çıkış noktasını oluşturmaktadır. Osmanlı arşiv belgeleri, Max von Oppenheim’ın yayımladığı raporlar, kitap ve makaleler, biliminsanları tarafından daha önce yapılmış çalışmalar ışığında bu husus aydınlatılmaya çalışılmıştır.
In the 19th century, when the struggle to influence the Ottoman State was on the edge, the seyyah, archaeologist and diplomat Max von Oppenheim was among the names that spy on behalf of Germany. After his trips and work in the Ottoman territory, the employment in the institutions within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Germany and the follow-up of the British and Ottoman State employees in the process is the outcome point of this article. The Ottoman archive documents, the reports, books and articles published by Max von Oppenheim, and the studies previously carried out by scientists have been attempted to illuminate this aspect.
