Bu çalışmanın amacı, 1960'larda sinemada etkili olan Toplumsal Gerçekçi filmler çerçevesinde, 1950'lerden itibaren Türkiye'de hızlanan modernleşme sürecinin ne şekilde yaşandığını ve ne gibi sonuçlar doğurduğunu incelemektir. Bu doğrultuda ilk olarak modernleşme süreci ana hatlarıyla ele alınacak, ardından da Toplumsal Gerçekçi akımının niteliklerine değinilecektir. Son olarak da Toplumsal Gerçekçi akımı temsil eden filmlerden Gecelerin Ötesi (Metin Erksan-1959), Karanlıkta Uyananlar (Ertem Göreç-1964), Bitmeyen Yol (Duygu Sağıroğlu-1965) ve Umut (Yılmaz Güney-1970) örneklerinden yola çıkılarak o dönem toplumsal, siyasal ve kültürel koşullarının nasıl işlendiği ortaya çıkarılacaktır.
The aim of this study is to show, by means of several movies in the context of social realism theory, how the modernization process in Turkey of the 50ies was observed by a part of population and what are the consequences of this process. Following a brief summary of major themes of this period and main characteristics of social realism, we propose to examine and categorize the selected movies depending on the latter. We'll also see how the democratic principals of this period were transmitted to the masses by the directors of these movies after the 1960 Coup d'etat.
