Comic Autofiction in Paco Roca. Humour Consideres as a Vanishing Point to the Traumatic Pattern of Graphic Novel

Abstract:

Abstract Connected to the contemporary trend of autobiographical graphic novels, a certain kind of comics can be included in the category of “autofiction”. However, the way in which creators manipulate their graphic selves and the ironic distance introduced in the stories lead us to think that we face not only a mere “autofiction” but a “comic autofiction” in which humour constitutes a very important narrative device. Fragmented texts that are structured according to the poetics of gag can be considered in a certain way a vanishing point to the traumatic model canonized by Art Spiegelman´s Maus. Paco Roca, Lewis Trondheim, Manu Larcenet are splendid examples of this practice fed by multiple formats as pages from press or diaries.
