Aim: The aim of this article is to summarize the views of Turkish Family Physicians about TAHUD, employee benefits, and gate-keeping function between the Years 2008 and 2011. Methods: A repeated cross-sectional study with one-year intervals was planned in order to query the opinions of family physicians on various topics. Population of the study consisted of members of the [email protected] e-mail group. A questionnaire including questions about demographical features, TAHUD, gatekeeper function, and employee benefits was prepared by the authors. The group members were invited by an e-mail to participate in the study. Data from 460 participants was analyzed. Results: In 2011, “mean age of the participants was 40.1±6.2 years. Gender distribution was 72 (63.7%) males vs. 41 (36.3%) females. Fifty-one (47.7%), 19 (17.8%), 26 (24.3%), and 11 (10.2%) participants were working in family practice, public hospitals, universities, and private sector respectively”. Proportion of participants planning to attend the coming TAHUD elections ranged from 33.6% to 40.9% and was declining throughout the years (p<0.001). The proportion of participants supporting the involvement of TAHUD managers in the Ministry of Health has an increasing trend going from 49.1% to 80.2% (p<0.001). Also the number of participants supporting sharing the title “Family Physician” with the untrained GPs increased throughout the years (from 12.0% to 25.7%; p<0.001). The number of family physicians satisfied with their income also increased from 23.5% to 40.2% throughout the years (p=0.016). Conclusion: Opinions of Turkish family physicians is following a sustained trend in some areas, but there are also changing opinions over time. Following and reporting the thoughts of family physicians periodically may benefit family physicians as well as managers and policy makers.
