One of the restrictions of the freedom of press which is a form the freedom of expression in the Turkish Law, in the system of European Convention on Human Rights and in the American Law is national security. This restriction is a legal concept and in addition to this, it also presents a political nature. Its political nature results from the fact that generally a clear defi nition of the concept was not made (or could not be made) and the scope of the concept changes depending on the political conditions of each country. Therefore, it is very diffi cult to state that the scope of the national security has exact limits. This limitation is usually determined by judicial bodies. In this essay, the national security will be considered as a reason that restricts the freedom of press in the Turkish Law, in the system of European Convention on Human Rights and in the American Law within the framework of court decisions
