Abstract:

This research aims to identify high school students’ perceptions of the character of Köroğlu, one of the important symbols of Turkish culture and literature, by means of metaphors they develop. The phenomenological approach, which is one of the qualitative research as a methodical pattern, was used. The study’s work group consists of a total of 253 high school students studying in a public school in the 2021-2022 educational year. In order to reveal the perceptions of high school students about the character of Köroğlu, students in the work group are like "Köroğlu ....". Because...." a work paper containing the phrase was given and they were asked to fill this phrase with the reason by developing a metafor. After the data was collected, the researcher thoroughly examined all the metaphors and reasons and then it. The results of the studies found that high school students developed a total of 246 metaphors, including 139 different metaphors about the character of Köroğlu, and that these metaphors were gathered under 12 themes. Looking at the metaphors they developed, it was found that the most of the metaphors "Lion" (f: 19) were developed. When the thematic distribution is studied, it is clear that the metaphors are most gathered under the theme "Hero/Free Element" (f: 102). When it comes to the class and gender distribution of students, the most metaphor is achieved by the result that the students of 8th grade (f: 71) and the girls students (f: 130) developed.
