Introduction: Football and futsal are sports that promote water loss in athletes, that can directly impact income. In this context hydration during a football or futsal match or training and the consequences of dehydration, as well os its prevention, are the focus os this literature review. Matrials and Methodos: For conducting this study 48 articles were used on diferent protocols and / or water replacement strategies in football and futsal sports, and studies on recommendations of hydration in the practice of physical exercises, all published between the years 2009 and 2020. They were consulted in the databases “Scielo”, “Google Scholar” and “PubMed”. Results: It`s essential that water replacement takes place prior to the onset of dehydration and thirst. In addition, when adopting a hydration plan, it`s important to take into considaration the choice of liquid to be ingested and quantity, respecting individual and physiological factors, and there are specific recommendations that can guide this hydration plan. It was also found that many athletes are unaware of and/ or neglect the importance of hydration, and begin dehydrated training, so it`s essential that there is more guidance on this topic for practitioners of these modalities. Final Remarks: Hydration strategies before,during or after, both in football and futsal are of paramount importance to obtain good performance, performance and athlete`s health.
