In this study, different Fe content (% network) produced in the same conditions (in similar solidification speed and similar chemical composition). The ratio between the corrosion behavior-Fe tolerance limit value of AZ91 Mg alloys with 0.025, 0.05, 0.1 has been assessed. The micro-structure analysis of the samples was made using the scaned electron microscope (SEM) and the X-work diffractometer (XRD). Corrosion behaviors were studied in a 3.5 % NaCl solution, using weight loss and potentiodynamic polarization testing methods. In microanalysis, the increase in Fe content has been observed with a greater tendency to increase in the “partly separated” or “lamellic ecetic” type β phase morphologies in the structure. Results, AZ91 alloy fe tolerance limit value ~ 0. It has shown that the loss of corrosion has increased exponentially after this value.
In this study, relationship between Corrosion Behaviour-Tolerance Limit of Fe content (0.025, 0.05, 0.1 wt. %) in AZ91 Mg alloys, cast under similar chemical composition and cooling rate, were investigated. The microstructures of Mg alloys were analysed by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and X Ray Diffractometry (XRD). The corrosion behaviours were evaluated by immersion tests and electrochemical polarization measurements in 3.5 wt. % NaCl solution. Microstructure analysis revealed that the increase of Fe content increased the “partially divorced” or “lamella eutectic” type β phase morphologies in the microstructure. Results indicated that the limit content value of Fe in AZ91 alloys was ~0.05 wt. % above which the corrosion loss had increased abruptly.
