Abstract:

In the development of elite athletes, talent identification and education, is a complex and multidimensional process. It is difficult to predict the future performance depending on the increasing amount of technical, tactical, conditioning and psychological needs in a sport. Factors such as children’s developmental stages and levels, gender, athlete development programs, social support, the quality of coaches, access to equipment and facilities can affect talent development process.Phases of talent identification, confirmation, development, refinement and transfer after detection process should be followed by taking into account talent development models under the umbrella of a sports federation with the strong cooperation of coaches, statisticians and sports scientists. In Turkey, instead of developing performance in a small number of talented athletes after puberty, experts should identify and select the talented athletes from the masses who were trained by high quality physical education teachers with the fundamental movement education in the beginning of kindergarten.
