Abstract:

The aim of this study is to study the levels of loneliness in assistant healthcare staff according to certain variables. The study included a total of 240 volunteers, including 106 women (44.2 percent) and 134 men (55.8 percent). The staff’s gender, age, civic status, education status, duration of office, exposure to harassment and exercise status have been studied. The UCLA loneliness scale was developed by Russel, Peplau and Ferguson (1978) and adapted by Iron (1989) to Turkish to determine the loneliness levels of staff. Parametric testing methods have been applied because the collected data show normal distribution. The results obtained in the data analysis were considered meaningful at a level of 0.05. A statistically significant difference between the levels of loneliness has been found according to the cases of abuse of assistant health staff (p<0,05). The assistant medical staff who did not exercise was found to be lonely as a result of the exposure to Mobbing (0,05). A statistically meaningful, positive but low relationship between the state of exposure to harassment and loneliness has been observed. According to the other variables included in the study, there was no statistical difference in the situation of loneliness. As a result, it is understood that the assistant health staff who are exposed to harassment is lonely, while exercising reduces the level of loneliness.
