Çalışmanın amacı, fen bilimleri dersi “Güneş, Dünya ve Ay” ünitesinin Tasarım temelli fen öğretimi ile işlenmesinin ortaokul 5. sınıf öğrencilerinin ilgileri, motivasyonları ve akademik başarılarına etkisini araştırmaktır. Araştırma 2019-2020 eğitim öğretim yılının 1. Döneminde Milli Eğitim Bakanlığı’na bağlı Antalya ilinde bulunan bir merkez ortaokulda yedi hafta süreyle uygulanmıştır. Araştırma toplam 77 öğrenci 5. sınıf öğrencisi ile yürütülmüştür. Araştırmada, ön test son test kontrol gruplu yarı deneysel desen kullanılmıştır. Araştırmacı deney grubuna Tasarım Temelli Fen Öğretimi yöntemini, kontrol grubuna ise mevcut fen öğretimi programı çerçevesinde öğretim yöntemleri uygulamıştır. Araştırma süresince kullanılan veri toplama araçları araştırmacı tarafından geliştirilen “Güneş, Dünya ve Ay” Ünitesi Akademik Başarı Testi, Fen Öğrenimine Yönelik Motivasyon Ölçeği ve Fen, Teknoloji, Mühendislik ve Matematik Alanlarına İlgi Ölçeği’dir. Araştırmada elde edilen veriler, t-testi ve tek faktörlü Kovaryans Analizi (One Factor ANCOVA) kullanılarak değerlendirilmiştir. Yapılan araştırma sonucunda Tasarım Temelli Fen Öğretimi uygulaması akademik başarı, Fen Öğretimine yönelik motivasyon ve FeTeMM alanlarına ilgi düzeylerini mevcut fen programı yöntemlerine göre daha olumlu etkilemiştir.
The aim of this study is to research the effect of the teaching of the science lesson “The Sun, The Earth and The Moon” unit with Design Based Science Teaching on the interests, motivations and academic achievements of the 5th grade students. The research was applied to these students for a period of seven weeks by choosing two branches from the 5th grade students who were studying in the first term of the 2019-2020 academic year. This study was conducted with a total of 77 students. In the research, experimental design with pre-test post-test control group was used. The researcher applied Design Based Science Teaching method to the experimental group and teaching methods within the framework of the current science teaching program to the control group. Data collection tools used during the research; It is “The Sun, The Earth and The Moon” Achievement Test developed by the researcher, the Motivation Scale for Science Learning and the Scale of Interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. The data obtained in the study were evaluated using the t-test and one factor analysis of covariance (One Factor ANCOVA). As a result of the research, the application of Design Based Science Teaching has had a more positive effect on academic achievement, motivation for Science Teaching and interest in STEM fields than existing science program methods.
