Abstract:

This research aimed to scrutinize the critical listening self-efficacy of secondary school students. Variables such as gender, grade level, Turkish course success grade, mother's education level, father's education level, number of books read, and daily average listening/watching were discussed by determining critical listening self-efficacy levels of secondary school students. 554 secondary school students from five different secondary schools in the city center of Sakarya participated in the research in the 2021-2022 academic year. For the research results, students' self-efficacy regarding critical listening is moderate. We can say in terms of variables that critical listening self-efficacy in female students is at a higher level compared to male students. There is a significant difference in favor of 7th grade between 5-7th grades and 6-7th grades. Mothers’ and fathers’ educational backgrounds and time that is allocated to listening/7watching by students do not affect critical listening self-efficacy. However, as the number of books that are read increases, critical listening self-efficacy increases at the same time.
