Özet:

Dental anxiety leads to serious results which have negative effetc on the patients oral health due to the dental care and cure avoidance. Therefore, it has great importance that both determining dental anxiety in early periods and making the patient overcome his fear during and before the treatment process. The aim of this study is determining both dental anxiety levels of the patients applying to Kırşehir Oral and Dental Health Center and the factors that affect. The research cosmos consists of 284 patients who apply to Kırşehir Dental Health Clinics for the first time, between February and May, 2009. In choosing samples cross sectional examplifying method has been used. Before the examination and peridontal treatment, a questionnaire determinig personel features and a scala including Modified Dental Fear Sclale (M-D-F-S) are superimposed on the patients. While evaluating the data the SPSS(13.0) programme has been used in statistical analyze, non-parametric test, Menn-Whitney U and Kruskal Wallis tests have been used since the data have not shown normal distribution. The total anxiety point average of the subjects Joining the research is found 36.47 ± 10.69 over 70 points; general point average is found 10.31 ± 4.06 over 20 points; spesific point average is found 12.33 ± 4.26 over 20 points; catastrophic point average is found 6.31 ± 2.84 over 15 points; insecurity average is found 7.50 ± 2.61 over 15 points. It is determined that patients age, education, experience of going to the dentist for any reason, the case of complication occurrence after the operation made, the frequency of going to the dentist; affect dental anxiety sub-group scores and the difference betweeen them is statistically significant (p<0,05). Dental anxiety can make it difficult fort he patient to adapt to dental treatment. It can be said that the attempts, which the dentist and the nurse will make in order to reduce dental anxiety, also affect the success of dental treatment processes.
