Abstract:

Maria Montessori is considered one of the most important figures in the 20th century education. Montessori, who has received medical education, has emphasized the education of these children in his studies by meeting disabled children during his research. Montessori believes that children with disabilities can be educated with appropriate approaches; Itart and Seguin have developed their own educational materials by studying the work they do with children with disabilities. Montessori, which is based on the presentation of materials and the educational environment offered to children to address the needs of disabled children, attract their interest and motivate them, has developed materials for disabled children and has worked systematically by making changes in their materials in accordance with the needs of these children. The study found that children with disabilities had progress far beyond what they expected. Montessori, who developed his own educational method, continued to work towards the education of normal development children due to the conditions of the period; but it is recognized by researchers that Montessori was the first private educator. The basic principles of the Montessori educational method, such as individual education, the progress of children at their own speed, the use of sensual-based materials, have entered the curriculum of special education. The Montessori educational method is still being used in our country and worldwide. The method is used in the education of children with normal development in our country, while the literature is studied in the education of children with special needs abroad. Autism, lack of attention and hyperactivity disorders, learning difficulties, physical disorders, hearing and vision disorders are among the obstacles that Montessori method is used for training. In this study, the Montessori training method was discussed in the framework of special training, and the availability of the method in various obstacles groups was examined. The study is expected to eliminate this clarity in the indigenous literature and to give a new perspective to the indigenous literature.
