Serbest şiir başlangıcından itibaren pek çok tartışmaya konu olmuştur. Türk Edebiyatının önemli eleştirmenlerinden biri olan Nurullah Ataç da zaman zaman serbest şiir hakkında yapılan tartışmalara katılmıştır. Ataç, serbest şiir ve yeni şairler hakkında yazdığı çok sayıda yazı ile yenileşen ve değişen Türk şiiri hakkındaki görüşlerini dile getirmiştir. Bu makalede Nurullah Ataç’ın serbest şiir hakkında yazdığı yazılar değerlendirilmiş ve bu yazılardan hareketle Ataç’ın serbest şiire karşı tutumu, serbest şiir hakkındaki görüşleri, serbest şiirin yaygınlaşması ve yeni şiir formunun meşruiyet kazanmasındaki rolü tespit edilmeye çalışılmıştır.
Since the beginning of the poetry, there has been a lot of discussion. Nurullah Ataç, one of the major critics of Turkish literature, has also participated in discussions about free poetry from time to time. Atak has expressed his views on renewed and changing Turkish poetry with numerous writings about free poems and new poems. In this article, the writings that Nurullah Ataç wrote about free poetry were evaluated and by moving from these writings, the attitude of Ataç against free poetry, his opinions about free poetry, the spread of free poetry and the role of the new poetry form in obtaining legitimacy were tried to be identified.
