Dünyada, küreselleşmenin olumsuz etkileriyle beraber; kentlerde ve kırsal alanlarda çeşitli sorunlar ortaya çıkmıştır. Sakin Şehir hareketi, 1999’da küreselleşme ve kapitalizme tepki olarak doğmuştur. Kentlerin yerelliğini ve özgünlüğünü kaybetmeden sağlıklı kalkınmasını ve daha yaşanabilir bir yaşam inşa edilmesini amaçlamaktadır. Gökçeada, uluslararası Sakin şehir ağının bu unvana sahip ilk ve tek adasıdır. Çalışmada; bu unvanın Gökçeada’nın doğal ve kültürel peyzaj özelliklerine etkisi saptanmaya çalışılmıştır. Bu amaçla, adanın sakin şehir ilan edilme sürecinden itibaren 72 alt ölçüt çerçevesinde yapılan çalışmalar, bir puanlama sistemiyle değerlendirilmiştir. Böylece çeşitli konulara yönelik politikaları içeren 7 ana ölçütün Gökçeada özelinde ne derece uygulanabildiğine yönelik bir skala oluşturulmuştur. “Çevre Politikaları” üst başlığı; yüksek, “Altyapı Politikaları”, Kentsel Yaşam Kalitesi Politikaları”, “Tarımsal, Turistik, Esnaf ve Sanatkarlara Dair Politikalar”, “Sosyal Uyum” ve “Ortaklık” üst başlıkları; orta, “Misafirperverlik, Farkındalık ve Eğitim İçin Planlar” üst başlığı ise düşük değer almıştır. Çalışmada ayrıca Gökçeada’nın yerel değerlerinin sürdürülebilirliğine yönelik öneriler getirilmiştir.

In the world, with the negative effects of globalization; various problems have arisen in cities and rural areas. The slow city movement was born in 1999 in response to globalization and capitalism. It aims to ensure the healthy development of cities without losing their locality and originality and to build a more livable life. Gökçeada is the first and only island in the cittaslow international network. In this study; the effect of this status on the natural and cultural landscape features of Gökçeada was tried to be determined. For this purpose, works conducted within the framework of 72 sub-criteria since the island was achieved the slow city status were evaluated with a scoring system. Thus, a scale was developed to determine the extent to which 7 main criteria of slow city movement were applied in Gökçeada. “Energy and Environmental Policies”; high value, "Infrastructure Policies”, "Quality of Urban Life Policies", “Agricultural, Touristic and Artisan Policies”, "Social Cohesion” and “Partnerships"; middle value and “Policies for hospitality, awareness, and training" received low value. In addition, recommendations were made for the sustainability of the local values of Gökçeada.
