Tarih boyunca Türk kültürüyle sıkı bir bağı bulunan Balkan coğrafyası, pek çok araştırmacının ilgisini çekmiş ve konuya dair çeşitli eserler kaleme alınmıştır. Balkanlarla olan bu bağ tarihin erken dönemlerinden itibaren var olmuş, Osmanlı İmparatorluğu’nun bölgeyi fethetmesiyle canlı bir kültür mozaiği ortaya çıkmıştır. Balkan şehirlerinde mimari, edebî, kültürel vb. olmak üzere Türk-İslam kültürünün izleri çok büyük önem teşkil eder. Türk idaresi altında meydana gelen etkileşimle bu iki kültür arasındaki armoni, araştırmacılar tarafından “Rumeli Medeniyeti” olarak tanımlanır. Osmanlı edebiyat sahasının zengin bir ayağını oluşturan Balkanlardaki Türk edebiyatı, farklı açılardan incelenerek birçok eser ortaya konmuştur. Başlangıçtan günümüze Balkanlarda yetişen sanatçıların kapsamlı bir şekilde ele alındığı Balkanlarda Türk Edebiyatı Tarihi adlı eserle bir ilke imza atılmıştır. Bölgedeki 10 ülkenin Türk edebiyatı ve Türkçe varlığı kronolojik bağlamda değerlendirilerek istatistiki bilgilerle okura sunulmuştur. Kültürel birikimin en iyi yansıtıldığı alanlardan biri olan edebî eserler üzerinden Balkanların sosyokültürel arka planını okumak da mümkündür. Mustafa İsen ve Tuba Durmuş tarafından yazılan bu eserle, Balkanlarda yetişen, görev yapan şair ve yazarlar toplu bir şekilde verilerek alanla ilgili araştırma yapanlara da kolaylık sağlanmıştır. Çalışmada ise Balkanlarda Türk Edebiyatı Tarihi adlı eserde dikkat çekilen noktalar, konunun ele alınış biçimi, yaklaşım tarzları, dil ve üslup özellikleri, niteliksel ve niceliksel bağlam incelenmiştir.
Balkan geography, which has a close bond with Turkish culture throughout history, has attracted the attention of many researchers and various works have been written on the subject. This connection with the Balkans has existed since the early periods of history, and a vibrant cultural mosaic emerged with the Ottoman Empire's conquest of the region. The interaction between these two cultures and the interaction that occurred under Turkish rule is defined by researchers as the “Rumelian Civilization”. Turkish literature in the Balkans, which constitutes a rich part of the Ottoman literary field, has been examined from different perspectives and many works have been produced. The work titled History of Turkish Literature in the Balkans broke new ground by comprehensively covering the artists who grew up in the Balkans from the beginning to the present. The Turkish literature and Turkish presence of 10 countries in the region are evaluated in a chronological context and presented to the reader with statistical information. It is also possible to read the sociocultural background of the Balkans through literary works, which are one of the areas where cultural accumulation is best reflected. In this work written by Mustafa İsen and Tuba Durmuş, the poets and writers who grew up and worked in the Balkans are presented collectively, making it easier for those doing research in the field. In the study, the points drawn in the work titled History of Turkish Literature in the Balkans, the way the subject is addressed, approaches, language and style features, qualitative and quantitative context were examined.
