Bu çalışmada, Türkiye’deki üniversitelerin Fransızca bölümlerinin (Fransızca öğretmenliği, Fransız dili ve edebiyatı ve Fransızca mütercim-tercümanlık) tercih edilme istatistikleri ve bu bölümlere yerleşen öğrencilerin akademik profillerinin incelenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Bunun için Yükseköğretim Program Atlası platformu üzerinden Lisans Atlası (https://yokatlas.yok.gov.tr/lisans-anasayfa.php) arama motoru aracılığıyla Fransızca bölümlerin son 5 yılda (2016-2020) tercih edilme ve yerleştirme istatistiklerine (verilerine) ulaşılarak çalışmanın bütüncesi oluşturulmuştur. Ardından bu bölümlere yerleşen öğrencilerin, cinsiyetleri, yaşadıkları coğrafi bölgeler, mezun oldukları lise grupları ve tipleri, Lisans Yerleştirme Sınavı (LYS)-5’teki net sayıları, Yükseköğretime Geçiş Sınavı (YGS)-3 ve YGS-4’teki puanları, ilgili bölümlere yerleşen son kişilerin profilleri ve son olarak ülke genelinde bu bölümlerin tercih edilme istatistikleri nicel bir yaklaşımla 7 (yedi) farklı başlıkta incelenmiştir. Araştırma sonuçlarına göre; Fransızca bölümlerinin öncelikle daha çok kız öğrenciler tarafından tercih edildiği belirlenmiştir. Diğer yandan bu bölümlere ağırlıklı olarak Marmara Bölgesinde yaşayan öğrencilerin rağbet gösterdiği ve bu öğrencilerin de çoğunlukla Anadolu liselerinden mezun oldukları anlaşılmaktadır. Meslek lisesi öğrencilerinin ise Fransızca bölümleri tercih etme oranlarının oldukça düşük olduğu saptanmıştır. Ayrıca bu bölümlere yerleşen öğrencilerin LYS ve YGS puan ortalamalarının da oldukça düşük olduğu görülmektedir. Sonuç olarak, üniversitelerimizdeki diğer dil bölümlerine oranla Fransızca bölümlerin daha az tercih edildiği ve daha düşük puanlarla yerleşilebilen bölümler olduğu sonucuna varılmıştır. Bunun en belirgin sebebinin ise eğitim sistemimiz içerisinde ilköğretimden başlayarak yükseköğretimin son kademesine kadar Fransızcaya bir yabancı dil olarak yeteri kadar önem verilmemesi ve göz ardı edilmesi olduğu söylenebilir. Bu sebeple de çalışmada, Fransızcanın bir dünya dili olarak ülkemizde her alanda öncelenmesi ve ilgili bölümlerden mezun olan öğrencilerin de özellikle eğitim sistemimiz içerisinde istihdam edilmeleri konusunda düzenlemelere gidilmesi gerektiği vurgulanmıştır.
This study seeks to analyze the statistics of preference for French-related departments at universities in Turkey (French language teaching, French language and literature and French Translation and Interpreting) and to examine the profiles of the students who are enrolled in these departments. To that end, it presents a corpus based on statistics (data) of preference for and enrollment in French-related departments in the last 5 years (2016-2020) through the Higher Education Program Atlas platform (https://yokatlas.yok.gov.tr/lisans-anasayfa.php) in the last 5 years (2016-2020). Then, it examines a total of 7 (seven) aspects: the gender of the students enrolled in these departments, where they reside, which type of high school they are a graduate of, their net scores in the Undergraduate Placement Examination (LYS)-5 and their scores in the Higher Education Placement Examination (YGS)-3 and YGS-4 graduate, the profiles of those recently enrolled in these departments, and the statistics of preference for these departments across the country. The findings of this study show that French-related departments are preferred primarily by female students. This study concludes that those who reside in the Marmara region mostly opt for these departments, and that most of these students are graduates of Anatolian high schools. It also reveals that vocational high school students rarely prefer French-related departments. It is further notable the students enrolled in these departments have very low LYS and YGS scores on average. In conclusion, French-related departments are preferred less than the departments of other languages in our university, and these are departments that require lower scores for admission. The most pronounced reason for this is that French is not given due importance and is overlooked as a foreign language in our education system starting from primary education through higher education. Thus, this study emphasizes that French as a world language should be prioritized in our country and that regulations are necessary to ensure that students who graduate from these departments are employed, especially within our education system.
