Abstract:

Aim: Long-term applicability is an important factor in the success of the diet. The factor determining the duration is the person’s satisfaction with their diet. The aim of this study is to conduct a validity and reliability study of the Turkish form of the 10-item, five-point Likert-type Diet Satisfaction Scale, which was developed to evaluate the satisfaction status of those who went on diets for various reasons. Subject and Methods: A total of 102 individuals aged between18 and 65 who went on a diet for various reasons (weight loss / gain, chronic disease) were included in the study. Statistical analysis of the data was made with SPSS 22.0 and LISREL 5.53 statistical package programs. In collecting data; the survey link created through google forms was sent to the participants via social media, WhatsApp groups and e-mail, and the participants were asked to fill in the survey.Bartlett test and Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin (KMO) test were used to analyze the data; Explanatory Factor Analysis (EFA), Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) and Pearson correlation analysis were applied. Language and content validity were checked at the validity stage. "Cronbach alpha coefficient" was calculated for internal consistency in determining the level of reliability value of the developed scale. Results: As a result of the evaluation of Turkish validity and reliability; it was observed that the EFA load of item no. 1 in the original scale was less than 0.30 and accordingly this item was removed from the scale and the Diet Satisfaction Scale was arranged as 9 items. It was determined that DFA loads varied between 0.44 and 0.87. It was found out that the factor loads of the items varied between 0.505 and 0.894 and the item total correlations varied between 0.422 and 0.847. The Cronbach alpha coefficient of the nine-item scale was found to be 0.902. Conclusion: This scale, which has a high level of validity and reliability (Cronbach alpha Reliability Coefficient= 0.902), is suitable and recommended to be used in the assessment of dietary satisfaction of Turkish individuals aged 18-65 who follow diets for different reasons (such as weight loss / gain, chronic disease).
