Abstract:

This study was conducted with the aim of studying the expansion of the EU in the light of the theories of conformity. Discussing the historical history of the EU-Turkey relations is another objective of this study. The work consists of three sections, except the entry and the result section. The first part includes the expansion process of the European Union within the framework of the integration theories. The second part includes the historic process of Turkey’s European Union journey. The analysis of the theory of integration of the relations between Turkey and the EU is included in the third section. The macroeconomic data used in the study, TCMB-EVDS, T.C. Ministry of Finance and Treasury, T.C. It is obtained from the Ministry of Commerce, the World Bank and OECD sources. In the historic process, many theories of harmony have been revealed in order to explain the waves of expansion of the EU. In the context of this study, the EU’s expansion waves have been tried to be explained in the light of the theories of federalism, functionality, new functionality, intergovernmentality and social construction. The theories of integration have been discussed not as a separate title in the study, but within the EU expansion process. The study found that the theories of consistency have not the ability to explain the EU expansion process individually. For the EU-Turkey relations, it is not thought that Turkey could be a full member of the EU in the near future. Although the full membership is not seen in the horizon, it is not said that the relationships will be broken when considered mutual dependence. For the EU, Turkey is a condition for the arrival to the east. For Turkey, the EU is a partner that cannot be filled up for economic development.
