Abstract:

This study is a case study evaluating the effect of cognitive behavioral therapy based virtual reality exposure intervention in public speech anxiety. The client is a 19-year-old female and university student. The client is a university third grade student who is particularly anxious about making an academic presentation in front of the community. A five-session exporusre program, consisting of one session face-to-face, four sessions of virtual reality-based exposure, was applied to the client. Liebowitz social anxiety scale (LAS) and The Social Appearance Anxıety Scale (SAAS) were applied before, after and one month after application. At the same time, the client was asked about the level of anxiety at the beginning of each virtual reality session, at 5, 10 minutes. Research findings show that virtual reality intervention is a short and effective intervention that reduces the level of speech anxiety and in front of the community and level of social appearance anxiety
