Abstract:

The aim of this study is to evaluate the soft tissue profiles of patients with similar scheletal anomalies treated with orthodontic camouflage and ortognatic surgery by orthodontists, oral surgeons and non-professional individuals and to study the differences in aesthetic perception. Method and Requirements: In this study, sculpted profile silhouettes were used using the Adobe Photoshop program for patients treated with osteochondrosis of Class III, orthodontic camouflage (9 female patients) and orthodontic surgery (9 female patients). A total of 341 participants, including 75 orthodontists, 47 surgeons and 219 non-professional individuals, evaluated the formed silhouettes using a VAS scale set between 1 and 10. Participants are also asked to choose the most motivating and attractive profiles from all the images. FUNCTIONS: Each group of camouflage patients scored lower than ortogenic surgical patients. However, non-professional individuals found their profiles less attractive to be statistically meaningful than clinics (p<0.05). While the profiles that all participants have considered the most motivating are profiles that have a clear end-to-end protrusion from the kamuflage patients, all groups have made the same choices for the most attractive profile. PROPOSITION AND RESULTS: While all groups perceived the silhouettes of the soft tissue profile of patients with ortogenic surgery as more attractive compared to the camouflage therapy, non-professional individuals found the profiles of both the camouflage and the surgical patients significantly less attractive compared to the clinics.
