El sanatları, toplumların ihtiyacına göre ortaya çıkmış günümüzde de halen devam eden faaliyetlerdir. Fakat bazı el sanatları alanları artık kullanım alanlarının ihtiyaç dışı olmasından dolayı daha çağdaş boyutlarda yer almaktadır. Birçok sanatçı ve tasarımcı, tüketim toplumlarında teknolojinin gelişmesiyle birlikte el sanatlarını farklı boyutlara taşımaktadır. Aynı zamanda dünyamızın küresel olgularından biri olan sürdürülebilirlik ve çevreyle ilgili geri dönüşüm ile insanlığa mesaj vermektedir. Günümüzde birçok insanın günlük faaliyetlerinden evsel ve endüstriyel atıklar ortaya çıkmaktadır. Bazı kalıntılar endüstriyel alanda yeniden kullanılmaktadır. El sanatları alanında da geri dönüşüm faaliyetleri oldukça yaygınlaşmıştır.  El sanatları ürünleri doğadan beslenme ve kimi zamanda geri dönüşüm ürünü olmaları nedeni ile sürdürülebilir ürünlerdir.Bu çalışmada Ankara Hacı Bayram Veli Üniversitesi Sanat ve Tasarım Fakültesi El Sanatları Bölümü öğrencilerinin Sürdürülebilir Tasarım dersinde;  kumaş, deri, boncuk, düğme, kâğıt, gazoz kapağı, yumurta kabuğu, plastik şişe vb. gibi atık materyalleri kullanarak yaptıkları 52 adet ürün renk, şekil, biçim, malzeme ve yapım tekniği ele alınarak incelenmiştir.

The crafts are the activities that are still ongoing today, emerging according to the needs of the societies. But some crafts fields are now in more contemporary dimensions because their use areas are unnecessary. Many artists and designers, along with the development of technology in consumer societies, move their crafts into different dimensions. It also sends a message to mankind with sustainability and environmentally-related recovery, which is one of the global phenomena of our world. Today, many household and industrial waste arise from the daily activities of people. Some of the remains are reused in the industrial area. Recycling activities in the field of craftsmanship have become quite widespread. Handicrafts emerged according to the needs of the societies and still continues today, but some handicraft areas are no longer needed and are located in more contemporary dimensions. Many artists and designers carry handicrafts to different dimensions with the development of technology in consumer societies. At the same time, it gives a message to humanity with sustainability and environmental recycling, which is one of the global phenomena of our world. Today, domestic and industrial wastes arise from the daily activities of many people. Some remains are reused in the industrial field. Recycling activities have also become widespread in the field of handicrafts. Handicraft products are sustainable products because they are nourished by nature and sometimes recycled.In this study, 52 products made by Ankara Hacı Bayram Veli University Faculty of Art and Design, Department of Handicrafts students in Sustainable Design course using waste materials such as fabric, leather, beads, buttons, paper, soda caps, eggshells, plastic bottles, etc. were examined in terms of colour, shape, form, material and production technique.
