Abstract:

The fact that Turkish has been in interaction with different languages since its first written documents has caused many foreign words to enter Turkish. These foreign or borrowed words, which were less common at the beginning, increased in number in later periods due to the increase in the number of languages spoken with. Today, most of them continue to be used both in standard Turkey Turkish and in Turkey Turkish dialects, shaped according to the sound characteristics of Turkish. It is known that many words from Western languages, especially words of Arabic and Persian origin, are widely used in the Eastern Group dialects, which is one of the main dialect groups of Turkey Turkish. However, while the loanwords used in these dialects are pronounced in accordance with the sound structure of Turkish, they also undergo some phonetic changes. In this study, the appearance of consonant shifts, which is one of the common phonetic events occurring in loanwords and defined as the replacement of neighboring or distant consonants within a word, in loanwords encountered in Eastern Group dialects will be discussed. In addition, the loan words to be evaluated in the study will be determined from scientific sources related to the Eastern Group dialects and will be given in their original form in the source from which they were taken.
