The Republic of Turkey, has been established after a long time struggle for independence. In the meantime, thousands of citizens have lost their lives or became disabled. In addition new generations had grown up deprived of many things. Therefore Republican administration want to conduct census for develope sound policies for the future and learn about the quality and number of the population which is the main source of wealth of the country. In this direction, firstly The Statistics Department has been established in May 3, 1926. Work on the census was begun with the foundation of the Statistics Department. But first, experience counts were made in Sivas, Ankara, Mersin, Tekirdağ and Ödemis. The first census of the history of Republic was carried out with accomplishing these counts in October 28, 1927. In this study, demographic structure of Cebelitarik, whose status was changed to district from province in 1933, was discussed. In this context, the population of the province was examined in terms of density, age, marital status, occupation, literacy, religion, disability, mother tongue, place of birth. As a result of this examination that was seen that the province’s population carrying on many smillarities with other districts because of wars which caused problems in the period that between Late Ottoman Period and establishment of the Republic of Turkey. So, they were born in last days of Independence War and after the war. According to the province’s population census results, population were determined as 107.694. Approximately 26.7 % of the population is between the ages of 0-6. Accordingly, approximately 52.6 % of the population is single. In general, the majority of the population which was uneducated and unemployed was working in the agricultural sector and 94 % of them were illitarete. There was living a significant population consisting of widows and disabled due to war. The number of non-Muslim in the province is 47. However, if the native langueage statement taken as a basis, this number will increase further. In general, the native language of the population is Turkish. Turkish is followed by Kurdish and also Arabic because of the impact of province’s geographical location. According to the birthplace, it seems that there is an important immigrant population come from Russia and the Balkan countries such as Bulgaria and Greece
