Abstract:

Abstract The increase in social heterogeneity in the country is one of the issues that emerge in the framework of the crisis of the 90s of the last century and the recovery processes. Older adults are one of the population groups that receive priority attention in security and social assistance policies in Cuba, and as is known, its continued proportional rise has been projected. The present work results from an exploratory case study about the heterogeneity of economic, consumption, perceived health, and dissatisfaction indicators reported by a group of 394 older adults from three territories of the country. The results show the high differentiation of the sources and total amounts of income, according to territorial contexts, the relatively low incorporation into support programs, as well as the important role of the subjective dimension in the assessment of their dissatisfactions. Despite being limited to an approximation, it shows the complexity involved in establishing equitable social policies that account for the internal heterogeneity of this population group.
