Abstract According to studies carried out by CEPAL, Cuba is in an advanced Stage of Demographic Transition. The fertility rate is below the replacement level; also, the size and rhythms of the population growth, as well as, the fertility rate in different age groups have been affected; which has led to a process called: “population ageing”. As a consequence of that, in the next years the incorporation of people to the labour force will not be enough to replace the existing one and the latter will be too old to carry out the economic development plans of the country. On the other hand, it is important to say that the female population has a bigger reserve of workforce, and in that area the country can apply politics that stimulate fertility. Due to this, our purpose is to have women incorporate to the workforce without affecting fertility. Therefore, our investigation focuses on determining the relationship between fertility and the participation of women as a workforce in the last twenty years in Cuba. To this end, these indicators have been analyzed since 1989 to 2009. Finally, as part of the results of this investigation, actions that stimulate women to be part of the workforce and increase their fertility have been proposed
