Hospitals with high energy consumption come at the top of the places where co-generation and trigeneration systems, called combined heat and power systems, must be implemented. This study examined the applicability of co-generation and trigeneration systems to a 276-bed university hospital in Kars. Due to the continuity of the need for electricity and the high unit price, the system has been selected according to the hospital's need for electricity. The planning of both systems is designed to meet the entire need for electricity and with the heating and cooling outcomes resulting from this production, considering that part of the heat that the hospital needs will be met. The co-generation system is implemented by 1,649 per year. 142 TL, with the application of trigeneration, the net profit of 1.661.105 TL annually is determined. The static refund period was 2.41 years in the co-generation system, 3.86 years in the trigeneration system, 2.85 years in the co-generation system and 3.13 years in the trigeneration system. As a result, it has been determined that both systems will benefit hospitals in areas with Kars climate characteristics, but the implementation of the co-generation system for the hospital that is studied may be more advantageous due to the high initial investment costs in trigeneration systems.
