Abstract:

The most important factor for the development of countries is to reduce urban and regional disparities and ensure local development first. In this context, it is essential to implement policies to eliminate inequalities between provinces by revealing the socio-economic development levels of the provinces. It is seen that the socio-economic development level of our country differs at the level of regions and even provinces. For this purpose, this study aims to reveal the regional differences between the provinces in Turkey. Using socio-economic indicators for 81 provinces, the province's development ranking was obtained by Principal Components Analysis (PCA). The obtained development rankings are expressed not only under a single socio-economic indicator heading but also under the subheadings of justice, environment, education, health, demography, economy and finance, culture, agriculture, population and migration, and tourism. Thus, it is expected to determine regional policies that reduce inequalities between provinces by comparing cities in terms of different socio-economic factors.
