Our study on architectural sculptures found in the Main Campus of Istanbul University commenced with taking inventory of the pieces in 2005 and 2006. Column capitals and column shafts from the Byzantine and Ottoman periods constitute majority of the pieces along with various architectural sculptures such as fragment of slab and column bases. The study aims to identify and promote the stone works in the main campus and convey transformation of the area and immediate vicinity during the Byzantine and Ottoman periods. Structures in the area did not survive due to extensive construction in the area since Byzantion through the Byzantine and Ottoman times as well as the Republican period. Therefore, it is not possible to determine the exact context of the architectural sculptures in the Main Campus of Istanbul University. Defi nition and dated of the stone works are considered in similar examples in technical and stylistic features. The pieces were evaluated according to the architectural development in the area.
