The Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome –AIDS is an infection caused by the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), which progresses to AIDS after an infected person develops an “Opportunistic” infection, or a tumor (That wouldn’t have been formed without the HIV presence) or had a T helper Lymphocytes count lower than 200 cells/mm3 the blood.The raise of the number of HIV-infected women broughtthe increase of the number of cases in children, mostly by vertical transmission. HIV also can be transmitted through exchange of body fluids during the sexual contact, receive infected blood in transfusions, share contaminate used needles for drug application, or received through an HIV-infected mother to her newborn baby, children currently represent 15% -20% of the affected population.The aim of this paper is to evaluate the nutritional status of soropositive teenagers and children (0-18 years old), todescribe the major nutritional and metabolic changes with the administer of antiretroviral therapy, and demonstrate who important it is the nutrition for those kids.It is an updated database, based on all of the literature about it, which conclude that the alimentation and the nutrition plays a key role to the HIV carrier health, improving the clinical outcome and the quality of life of those individuals.
