Abstract:

This study consists of the translation of the work, Nasihat-nāme, attributed to Abū Ḥanīfa by ʿAbd al-Majīd Sīvāsī, the founder of the Sīvāsīyya branch of the Shamsiyya section of Halvetī sect, and who lived during the end of the XVIth and at the beginning of the XVIIth centuries. ʿAbd al-Majīd Sīvāsī stated that he wished to write a ‘pend-nāme’ (a book of ethics); and that there was however no need for such a book after he saw the above mentioned work; and that his purpose was fulfilled after translating Nasihat-nāme. The work written in prose was translated from Arabic into Turkish. In the book, the advices that Abū Ḥanīfa gives his student Abū Yūsuf are listed. Abū Ḥanīfa tells his pupil Abū Yūsuf the behaviours that he must and must not do about many fields of life. With comments and additions made by ʿAbd al-Majīd Sīvāsī, the work achieved the form of compiled translation. The manuscript, which has only one single copy, contains seven pages. In the article, firstly, the main lines of ʿAbd al-Majīd Sīvāsī's life, scientific, mystical personality and works are given. Brief information is given about the main author of the work, Abū Ḥanīfa. Then, the transcription of the work named Nasihat-nāme was given and analyzed in terms of various features.
