Bu çalışma, 2021-2022 eğitim-öğretim yılında kullanılan ortaöğretim Tarih ve Sosyal Bilimler ders kitaplarındaki kadın şahsiyetlerin ne şekilde sunulduğunu tespit etmek amacıyla yapılmıştır. Çalışma için on üç ders kitabı incelenmiştir. Bunlardan 9., 10. ve 11. sınıf Tarih ile 12. sınıf Türkiye Cumhuriyeti İnkılap Tarihi ve Atatürkçülük adlı kitaplar zorunlu derslere ait kitaplardır. Çağdaş Türk ve Dünya Tarihi, Demokrasi ve İnsan Hakları, Yönetim Bilimi, Uluslararası İlişkiler, Türk Kültür ve Medeniyet Tarihi, İslam Bilim Tarihi, Sanat Tarihi, Türk İslam Sanatı Tarihi ve Müze Eğitimi adlı kitaplar ise seçmeli sosyal bilimler derslerinin kitapları arasındadır. Çalışmada doküman analizi yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Araştırma sonuçlarından bazıları şu şekildedir: Ders kitaplarındaki metinler ve görseller sayısal olarak incelendiğinde, ders kitaplarında yer alan kadın şahsiyetlerin erkek şahsiyetlere oranla oldukça az olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Bu durum tarihte, bilimde, sanatta ve siyasette öne çıkan birçok kadın olmasına rağmen ders kitaplarında kadın şahsiyetlerin yeterince temsil edilmediği kanaatini oluşturmaktadır. Ayrıca ders kitaplarındaki toplumsal roller ve meslekler değerlendirildiğinde, erkek şahsiyetlerin kadın şahsiyetlere kıyasla çok çeşitli toplumsal rollerde ve mesleklerde sunulduğu saptanmıştır. Bununla birlikte ders kitaplarındaki kadın şahsiyetlerin bağımsız ve bireysel kadınlar olarak sunulması yerine genellikle bir erkeğin yakını olarak tanımlandıkları görülmektedir. Sonuç olarak Tarih ve Sosyal Bilimler ders kitaplarında kadın şahsiyetlerin hak ettiği şekilde temsil edilmediği söylenebilir. Bu çalışma ile gelecekteki Tarih ve Sosyal Bilimler ders kitaplarında daha fazla kadın şahsiyete yer verilmesi konusundaki farkındalığın arttırılması beklenmektedir.
This study was conducted to determine how female personages are portrayed in secondary education History and Social Science textbooks used in Turkey during the 2021-2022 school year. Thirteen textbooks were examined for this study. Among these 9th, 10th, and 11th grade History, 12th grade History of Revolution and Kemalism are the textbooks of compulsory courses. Contemporary Turkish and World History, Democracy and Human Rights, Administrative Science, International Relations, History of Turkish Culture and Civilization, History of Islamic Science, History of Art, History of Turkish Islamic Art, and Museum Education are the textbooks of elective courses. Document analysis method was used for the study. Some of the results of this research are as follows: The quantitative analysis of the texts and images in the textbooks revealed that women appear less in the textbooks than men. Therefore, it can be concluded that women are not adequately represented in the textbooks, although there are several women who have made significant impact and contribution in various fields such as art, history, science, and politics. The data analysis also revealed that men are represented in textbooks with a variety of occupations and social roles compared to women. Another interesting finding is that female personalities in textbooks are generally defined in relation to men, rather than being portrayed as independent and individual women. In conclusion, women are not represented in History and Social Science textbooks as they should be. Therefore, the expected outcome of this study is to raise awareness of this issue, which may lead to more female characters being included in textbooks in the future.
