Abstract:

World War I has brought about economic imbalances and crises that will continue for many years by giving a shock to the world's political, social, and economic system. One of the most important consequences of the economic crisis which emerged in the USA on October 24, 1929, and whose effects lasted until World War II was the rapid decline in agricultural product prices. Turkey, where more than 80% of the country's population is engaged in agriculture, the majority of its agricultural population is cereals and more specifically wheat producers, whose exports are based on agriculture and whose foreign dependency is high, was inevitably affected by the 1929 World Economic Crisis. The Economic Crisis has reduced the prices of agricultural products in Turkey as in the world, but the prices of basic necessities consumed by peasants and farmers have not decreased. When the economic impossibility of Anatolian peasants and farmers was added to the reflections of the 1929 World Economic Crisis in Turkey, the peasants and farmers became increasingly poor. In such an environment, one of the important issues for the executives in the fight against the 1929 Economic Crisis was the gradually decreasing wheat prices. This situation led the government to new searches for farmers and peasants, and many intellectuals and writers either wrote down the situation of the peasants or tried to develop a solution proposal.
