Misery and Splendour ofTranslation (1937) contains Ortega y Gasset's thought about translation. This essay is integrated within German Hermeneutics and represents the continuation of sorne aspects which had previously been discussed by sorne of the most representative German authors. Ortega takes up the main approaches developed by Goethe, Schleiermacher or Benjamín and elaborates on this basis his own concept of translation which has become a common reference amongst our authors. This work intends to provide a revision of Ortega's ideas about translation within our current theoretical context in order to analyse its influences as well as to value Ortega y Gasset's contribution to Translation Studies in our tradition.
