Thus, the aim of this paper is to investigate changes in body composition of 60 to 75 –year-old women before and after a localized exercise program. Participants were 15 women attending an institution for general well being. Anthropometric measurements were taken to evaluate nutritional conditions through the following variables: height, weight, waist circumference (WC), abdominal circumference (AC), hip circumference and BMI. Participants were assessed again after months of intervention with mild/moderate localized exercise up to 65% of maximum heart rate. According to BMI, it was observed that 73% of the group was somewhat overweight and that this weight did not have statistical significance. This result might be due to the fact that height and weight remained stable before and after intervention. Besides, there was significant statistical decrease (p≤0.05) of the WC and AC anthropometrical variables. This stresses the importance of physical activity for the prevention of non-communicable chronic diseases, since these variables are closely linked to risk factors. These results show that preventive interventions are always welcome, particularly in the case of the elderly population.
