Abstract:

The aim of this study is to evaluate the perceptions of social workers working in the field of migration towards multicultural social work practice and to reveal how they experience this practice. The research sample consists of social workers working in the field of migration in Istanbul. Within the scope of the research, phenomenology, one of the qualitative research designs, was used. In the findings section, social workers; opinions about the multicultural society, the differences of clients and their attitudes as a result of professional experience, the role of social work education, the problems experienced by different cultural groups and the perspective of social workers.The findings obtained within the scope of the research show that cultural differences and providing services according to these differences are important for social workers working in the field; but at the same time, it has shown that ethical dilemmas and value conflicts are experienced due to these differences. It has been concluded that the practice of multicultural social work in Turkey has not developed enough because an effective application ground has not been established before.
