Abstract:

Turks have adopted the nomadic lifestyle in different periods of history. After the nomadic lifestyle, they moved to a settled life in time. During this transition, they produced items made of different materials to preserve their belongings, food and clothing. These items included saddlebags, sacks, rugs and bundles woven with madder. These products, which are artistically created in different sizes and colors, have become used for different purposes over time. One of these products is a bundle. In the beginning, the purpose of the bundle was to protect people's clothes and to prevent these clothes from getting dirty. It has also come to be used for different purposes such as a food box and a headscarf. This art, which was created by women by weaving and embroidering with cross-stitch in the periods when technology was not developing, served the purpose of hiding the sultan's clothes with the state tradition, and has been carried to the present day with the bride and groom's bundle tradition in the advanced processes of history. The bundle, which is also reflected in oral culture products, has sometimes found a place in folk culture as an element that reflects the economic and cultural levels of rural areas. In these oral culture products, the hero who goes to the field or garden says that he wraps his food and bread in a bundle, which means a bundle consisting of four corners. While this handicraft, which is woven by knots, opens the doors of a different art, with each form containing different meanings and messages, in this study, the place of the bundle in culture, its usage areas and the change it has undergone over time has been conveyed.
