Abstract:

Purpose: The aim of this study; was made to find out why students in our country prefer education abroad with the fact of brain drain. Methodology: Phenomenology pattern was used as a qualitative research method, the data was obtained through a semi-structured interview form. Within the scope of the research it reached 14 participants, the data obtained from the participants were coded, collected under the themes and subjected to content analysis. Findings: According to the research findings, for students to study abroad; reasons such as familial factors, professional development and academic career thinking, citizenship and the right to study at a university abroad provided by the high school from benefiting, having the opportunity to study abroad in different ways have been effective. Difficulties experienced by students in the education process, dissatisfaction in state policies: nepotism, transparency, right, justice and merit are the pushing factors. The relevant institutions and policy makers of the state, their studies and projects for this group of students, should be at the top of the order of measures to be taken. Other projects to be produced should focus on keeping the qualified workforce in our country with the potential to give brain drain to developed countries and reverse brain drain. Originality: It is known that the increasing percentage of brain drain in recent years and the decrease in reverse brain drain are among the obstacles to the development of our country and that the issue should be examined in detail. This group of students; Determining what are the reasons that push, direct and refer to abroad education and evaluate them in the context of brain drain will be decisive in order to learn the expectations and demands of students who have not completed their education.
