Abstract:

Cyber space is the modern world in which we are engaged with the development of the Internet and becoming part of our lives. In this digital-based world, unlawful activities such as cyber harassment, cyber money laundering, cyber fraud and cyber terrorism that use the computer to continue a tool, target or more crime fall within the scope of cyber crime. The measures taken to protect against crime in this scope are called cyber security measures. As a result of demographic changes, the proportion of elderly individuals is rapidly increasing. The Internet also brings opportunities in many areas, such as communication, health and finance, which can improve the quality of life of the elderly. From this point of view, the benefits of cyber space can not be neglected in socializing the elderly, especially as a part of society, and doing their business at home. Nevertheless, the elderly attract attention as one of the most unsustainable groups in the cyber space. From literature to literature, studies on cyber crimes that older individuals may experience in the cyber world are limited. Cybersecurity has started to attract more attention in recent years as one of the topics that must inevitably be focused on in order for the opportunities revealed by the cyber space to be achieved in the perspective of the elderly. In this study, it was attempted to investigate the cyber security issues that elderly people experience in the cyber space through SWOT analysis and to suggest solutions. In this context, the study focused on the issues of cyber space, cyber crime and cyber security. The SWOT analysis on the subject was subsequently conducted and the necessary aspects for the security of the elderly in the cyber space were tried to be explained by the study of the literature on the subject.
