EVALUATION OF THE TEACHERS AND PARENTS’ VIEWS ABOUT THE HOMEWORKS GIVEN IN THE PRIMARY SCHOOL

Abstract:

The purpose of this study is to determine the opinions of the primary school teachers and parents of their students about homework that were given to the students. When presenting the opinions of the teachers and parents; it was evaluated about their opinions according to the general opinions, the content of the homework, the effect on the student achievement and a student-parent cooperation on homework and these four subjects have created the problems of the research. In this study, interview technique that is commonly used in the qualitative research method, and semi structured interviews were conducted totally with 5 voluntary teachers and 14 voluntary parents of these teachers. Data was evaluated with the content analysis method. During the analysis process, similar properties of the data were formed according to the main theme, theme and category. The frequencies of the data were given in the study. As a result of the analyses of the findings; although the study group has various features, teachers and parents generally have some common views on subjects both in their group and between each other (teacher-parent). The results of the first problem's findings; all the teachers and parents have common views about giving homework and stated it homework should be given. The results of the second problem's findings; most of the teachers and parents have common views about the amount of the homework and stated it too much homework shouldn't be given. The results of the third problem's findings; all the teachers and parents have common views about the effects of homework on the student achievement and stated it homework has the effects on the student achievement. The results of the fourth problem's findings; all the teachers and parents have common views about a student-parent cooperation on homework and the expressions about a student-parent cooperation on homework were seen positively.
