Abstract:

Utilizing web-based courses, both as independent and as a support to in-class courses, is becoming more prevalent and important. While creating web-based courses, instructional systems design principles should be utilized for developing an effective learning environment. In this study, instructional systems design phases are briefly explained and, an asynchronous web based course delivery is presented. For this project, “Computer Networks and Communication” course within the 3rd year curriculum of Computer Education and Instructional Technologies Departments of Education Faculties in Turkey was preferred. In the project, course web pages divided into weeks, consisting of animations, pictures and figures, weekly homework, to be sent to the instructor via e-mail by the participants, exercise questions classified week by week and message boards and chat rooms which enable students to interact between themselves and the instructor either synchronously or asynchronously were created. While creating these environments, primary considerations were features of visuality and user friendliness. Finally, all the components of the project were integrated all in one
